ABOUT ERIN
Sacred Sparks is created by Erin Robinson Hall
Writer, podcaster, educator, and preacher are all pieces of Erin’s vocational life. She enjoys designing programs, curriculum, and experiences for people that invite imagination and spiritual formation.
Rev. Dr. Hall is a graduate of Samford University, Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and Columbia School of Theology. She and her husband Jake spend most of their time driving their four young children to sports, dance, and too many activities. In the years since they brought three of their children home from foster care and completed adoptions, Jake and Erin have learned what life with trauma-informed lens can look like. A former special education teacher, Erin now gets to be on the parenting side of IEP meetings. Besides carpool, Erin preaches, speaks for events, and writes a column in Macon Magazine called “Cups and Water” about spirituality and how we are more connected than separate, after all.
What is the idea for sacred sparks?
In my family, a favorite song is “We Shall Be Known.” The lyrics challenge me:
We shall be known by the company we keep
By the ones who circle round to tend these fires
Fire tending feels like an apt description for how my family nurtures spiritual matters. In these days ahead, I want my children to feel safe and sure in their growing faith, strengthened like a fire and ready to “lead in love” from that kind of passion.
But, if I am honest, some days I just see a small ember. I know they see, absorb, engage and wonder during the regular, ordinary moments. So, we start there. If we can spark their spiritual imaginations? Well, I have seen what sparks can do.
You too?
Rote memorization and indoctrination is just not the way, for my family. Many friends have said the same. We still want space for the sacred. Let’s try this: We look to the witness of scripture, the witness of poets, prophets and change makers, the witness of our lived experiences . . . in the third grade and the 8th grade and the carpool lane and the board room. Bring a little wonder and curiosity and listening into those moments and we may recognize that something sacred happens there, too.
Receive Sacred Sparks into your family’s routine. Try it out. Then, tell us what it sparked for you.
What can i expect from sacred sparks?
Sacred Sparks is a progressive theological devotional series designed for children, youth and their families.
The series focuses on:
1. Connection: Building relationships with God, others, and creation with attention to emotional literacy
2. Community: The devotions center the voices of leaders and change makers who are connected with marginalized people.
3. Nourishment: Drawing strength from scripture, tradition, and shared experiences.
4. Playfulness: Embracing joy and curiosity as sacred practices.
5. Embodied Practices: Engaging faith through acts of justice, kindness, and love.
Th devotions are designed to be explored wherever kids and their grownups have 5-10 minutes together.
Some good spaces to spark imagination might be: while making a meal, riding in the car, bathtime, mealtime, in a waiting room. You can read the devotion aloud or listen to the podcast together. You decide where a few moments of reflection can spark something special.
